“This is an unprecedented election in the midst of a global pandemic. Town clerks are processing thousands more absentee ballot applications and thousands more absentee ballots than we ever have in previous Presidential elections. In order to manage this tremendous increase, clerks across the state have hired additional part time employees, staffed up with volunteers, and purchased new equipment to efficiently and effectively process applications and ballots. With the sheer volume of this undertaking – handling tens of thousands, rather than hundreds, of applications and ballots – there are bound to be errors, both human and electronic.
